Loryn Martini

What do you teach at Brooksfield School? What is your educational background?
I am the Outdoor Education and Kindergarten Science Teacher.  I received my B.S. from Michigan State University and I attend American University where I received my M.A.

What do you love about Brooksfield/ Why do you like teaching at Brooksfield?
Inspiring the next generation of learners to love and care for the natural world is what I love most about teaching at Brooksfield! Students learn to respect all living things and cultivate a caring curiosity about nature. Students are outside year-round, so we learn to appreciate the unique gifts of every outdoor season.

What sets Brooksfield apart from other Montessori schools?
Brooksfield’s outdoor space and emphasis on environmental education makes it such a special place. The children spend their days in their colorful classrooms but are also encouraged to enjoy the outdoors, getting muddy in the outdoor kitchen and learning about bugs, birds and animals. Brooksfield students practice mindfulness and learn to cultivate peace within themselves and their communities.

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself? Fun Fact?
I’m originally from Michigan where I grew up with horses, chickens, goats, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, dogs, and cats! Outside of school, you’ll often find me biking through Rock Creek Park or the C&O Canal, reading, or doing yoga.
